"ttyymmnn" (ttyymmnn)

I got back on my bike this morning for my regular 1o-mile ride that I haven’t ridden regularly in about three months. Whenever I do ride, though, I often get a song stuck in my head, and it keeps banging around for the duration of the ride. Today, for some inexplicable reason, it was this:
Welcome back to 1985, when labels had no idea at all what to do with music videos. What will be stuck in Ttyymmnn’s head tomorrow morning? We shall see. Tune in and find out.

Last week for me it was a constant procession of Yes’
Starship Trooper
and
Yours is No Disgrace.
Taking turns.

For me, Yes is very much like the little girl with the curl in the middle of her forehead . When it is good it is very good indeed, but when it is bad it’s horrid.

That pace is waaay too slow. I’d have to find something that matched my normal cadence or I’d be constantly slowing down.

There is a good amount of Yes I don’t care for very much, but the flanger and organ (and up-tempo sections) in Starship Trooper and the bass hook in Yours is no Disgrace keep me coming back.
I’m not really fond of the Close to the Edge or Tales from Topo
graphic Oceans albums, but The Yes Album an
d Fragile
rate
pretty well for me.

Well, like I said, it’s been three months. And that’s also not to say that it’s the beat I’m riding to. I ride through the neighborhood, so there are lots of slows and stops and gos.

Last week I took the lyrics from Kelis’ Milkshake and shook them up a bit for a comment. Now, of course, it keeps popping into my head at random times.

I tried matching my goal cadence (running) with a playlist of songs that were all within 1bpm of that cadence. Over three runs I was actually a few steps slower (cadence AND pace) than with a random mix. It was crazy, but noticeable.
Stupid Tom Petty and Lenny Kravitz!

I like listening to House music while riding. 128 bpm or so makes for a good ride to me.
Jungle or Happy Hardcore at 150+ bpm, on the other hand, is basically asking for my heart to expl ode.

I’m trying to keep my BP healthy, not asplode my heart. But I had a stress test and ECG in the spring, and my ticker is in pretty good shape for being 51 and drinking too much. I just have to keep it from getting worse.

I don’t have the talent to keep two different time-signatures going in my head at the same time. If my brain is stuck on a song, my cadence is going to match it.

Starship Trooper is a great song. Yours is no Disgrace is pretty good too - actually heard that on the radio recently.
